Fun Facts:
Their are two species of Kokako endemic to New Zealand, the North Island Kokako and the presumably extinct South Island Kokako.

Kokako can be found in Waikato, Rotorua, Northland and Pureora Forest.

North Island Kokako have increased in population from 330 pairs in 1999 to 1595 pairs in 2017. This is due to pest cotrol and translocation.

Kokako mainly eat fruit and leaves, and less often they will eat flowers, moss, buds, nectar and inverebrates
